Plaque Location

This plaque is on the wall adjacent to Hussey's almshouses in Castle Street.
Hussey's Almshouse are on the west side of Castle Street, just south of Mill Stream Approach.
The O/S grid position is SU 14367 East 30373 North.

Plaque Text

This relic of the ancient stonework, re-erected in 1908
marks the position of the Castle Street gate which
formed part of the fortification of the city in 1378.
The gate and west buttress were removed in 1788
and the east buttress in 1906.
