This plaque can be found on the road bridge over the River Avon on Scamell's Road.
Viewing the plaque can best be achieved from the river path.

A bridge over the long-disused railway line from Ash Green to Tongham has the same inscription. The line where the bridge is, can now be walked. The details are given in this photograph of a rather neglected sign.
The inscription looks identical to the Salisbury one except that you can see evidence of the year having been removed. Who would have gone to all the effort of removing the year-date and why?

This bridge formely carried the railway over Castle St was removed & placed in its present position by T.Scamell in 1898 & the entire work was carried out under his direction without the aid of any machinery.
Note that there is a spelling mistake on this plaque which has been corrected in plaque 62 on the other side of the bridge.
